Dictionaries

Overview: Dictionaries are logical groupings of tables and fields.  Tables and fields can belong to more than one dictionary.  Dictionary entries can contain dimensions, expressions and lookup values.

Manage Tab

Begin by creating a dictionary and giving it a name and other descriptive information.


Step-by-step guide

  1. In the Manage Tab click on the New or Edit links
  2. Enter the following data:
    1. Name: the name of the Origin Source Type
    2. Description (optional): free text description
    3. Contributor (optional): name of the data steward responsible for this entry
    4. Reviewer (optional): name of the reviewer (external governance workflow)
    5. Governance: IPDF Engine (future product enhancement)
    6. Tags (optional): associated Governance item
    7. Notes (optional):  freeform text

Import Data Tab

This capability is provided as an alternative for IPDF administrators to load dictionary entries.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Click on the link "...using this template.":
  2. A MS Excel workbook will be downloaded with two sheets:
    1. Dictionary - has all of the fields as described on the Manage tab for this help topic
    2. DictionaryEntries -  has all of the fields as described in Dictionary Entries for this help topic
